What exactly is the Sunday Night Project?

The Sunday Night Project is a slightly different take on church. It is our attempt to break out of the mould and put relationship and fun back into religious expression.

At the centre of our meetings we want to keep them:

Enjoyable.
Accessible.
Christ Like.

We have initially worked on four different areas of activity:

Building Relationships
Social Action (Local, National, International).
God, Bible and Thinking
Worship as journey

The events are planned and organised by a steering group. You are welcome to contribute ideas, and suggestions at any time.

Is this just for Christians or 'churchy people'?

Not at all. In fact, the whole point of the Sunday Night Project is to involve people who wouldn't normally go to church on a Sunday night.

Let us explain a bit further. We used to have a meeting at Stanley Road Baptist Church on a Sunday night, but we realised that not many people were too bothered about meeting us there. So, we decided to move out into the local community instead. We do still have some of our events in the church hall (not usually in the 'churchy' bit!), but most of the time we meet at one of the local pubs, or on the beach, or in a coffee bar, etc.

The basic idea is, "If the people won't come to the church, then the church will come to the people!" But a quick look at our past events and future events will show you that we have come a long way from the old traditions of hymns, prayers, sermons and the collection plate! Pub quizzes, live bands, lively topical debate: all things for ordinary people like you to enjoy with ordinary people like us.

Is this a weekly thing or can I just come once or twice?

We want you to feel free to come and go as you please. Take a look down the list of future events and find something you fancy.

Certainly there are people who come every week, but equally there are those who just come when they can, when they feel like it or when they like the sound of what we are doing this week. No commitment, no pressure, just come and enjoy!
